Charis Ainslie

I’m a literary translator working from French and Italian into English.

I translate theatre, literary fiction and works for children and
young adults.

I’m drawn to themes of identity and belonging, social injustice
and diversity, and am particularly interested in stories of young people dealing with problems at home, such as divorce, mental illness and bereavement.

Alongside this, I work as a commercial translator, teach on the
MA Translation course at the University of Surrey and am a mentor
on the Foreign Affairs Theatre Translator Mentorship Programme, supporting translators in bringing new international works to the
UK stage.
